Let's Do It Again!Chapter Five; We just had to run this section twice. . .
Zion National Park, UT. (May 24) -
Loaded up and headed for Zion. Followed 89 south to 9 west, that took us into Zion from the east side. Unbelievable country! Red rocks. Tan rocks. Grey rocks. Even black rocks. We stopped for many pictures. At one stop, Ron found a cactus in bloom, quite a treat for us. The roadway is red here. Don’t know if that is from staining from the rocks like Bryce Canyon, or if they added crushed red rock when they laid the pavement.
Traffic was fairly light for being Memorial weekend. It did back up and come to a stop when we came to the tunnel. This
tunnel is over a mile long and drops you down into a valley. It is narrow and only 11’ high. They only let campers through
from one way at a time. By motorcycle is the only way to see this country!

Springtime Water Fall
an unusual sight - water from the rocks
We came out of the tunnel into a set of switchbacks down the side of the mountain. Wow! As I said in an earlier piece, you run out of adjectives to describe this beautiful country. So mostly we just rode with out mouths hanging open in wonder.
Made several stops for pictures and took our time. Eventually we came out on the west end of the park, pulled over, and shut off the bikes. We looked at each other and someone said “Where to now?” “Let’s do it again!” we all said together. So we went back through the park, this time from west to east. It seemed much quicker than the first time through!
We left Zion and headed on down 89 toward the Grand Canyon. I normally do a complete day in each article but I’m going to split this one so we can pack the maximum amount of pictures in. So……we will be going to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon next.
