The museum is not just about trains; all forms of motorized transport are covered with the exception of motorcycles (DRAT!), and several old horse drawn wagons are found. These ancillary exhibits are small now, but with the expansion into the newly renovated Back Shop they will be displayed with more enthusiasm. The aviation exhibits include a couple of very rare articles, one of them being a 1940's era navigation trainer built by the Curtis-Wright Company and a complete DC-3.
The automobile exhibits are delightfully displayed in context of the era; old Fords in front of a 1930's era barber shop, a '58 Chevy in front of a roadside motel, etc. It's nicely done and I expect the new digs will be even better.
There is no admission fee. Be sure to check the museum website for current operating hours. The complex is located adjacent to US-29 in downtown Spencer. If you come by way of I-85 use Exit 82 and run south, it will be on your left. A large parking area can accommodate hundreds of bikes... and frequently does.
