One of the best scenic views in all of North Carolina. Best enjoyed when combined with visits to Mt Airy, which is the real name for Andy Griffith's home town that he made famous as 'Mayberry'!

Upon reaching the top of Little Pinnacle the view is breathtaking! Several trails, from
two tenths of a mile to six miles long, await the more adventuresome walkers and a really
nice picnic area lies just off the parking area for those that have more sedentary thoughts.
Spectacular views greet visitors
Shutterbugs will want to bring a long lens in order to capture the stark views of the vertical rocks visible on Big Pinnacle, which is connected to Little Pinnacle by a little swayback formation. Large birds, soaring through the winds racing between the peaks, are common and it's not unusual to see flocks riding the waves.
The park entrance is located off US-52/I-75 about 35 miles south of Mt Airy, NC. If you have time, wander the back roads. The prospect of getting lost isn't very great because all of these great, twisty, county trails all will eventually lead you back to a major road or into one of a number of small villages and towns in either Stokes or Surry counties. Plan to spend some time in the village of Pilot Mountain, it has a colorful background and some pleasant people.
Contact the State of North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation for complete information about Pilot Mountain, camping, canoeing, and much more are available here. Hanging Rock State Park and Home Creek Living Historical Farm are very close by.
