US Routes - An Introduction
When named, long distance, highways gave way to numbered routes and subsequently to the Eisenhower Interstate Highway System, we began to lose the romance of traveling along American's open roads. This section is dedicated exclusively to the US Routes and named highways like the Dixie Highway, the Lincoln Highway, and even cross-border routes like the Jefferson Highway. Click on the US Route icons above and find a description of the each route by segments. State highways are found by clicking on the state abbreviation from the menu at the left of this page, and those pages are laid out in a similar fashion as the US Routes pages. Below the collected segment descriptions you will find an alphabetical list, sorted within state, of attractions, lodging, restaurants, campground, and motorcycles shops. Your input is vital to this effort to build a comprehensive highway guide for touring riders. We invite you to become a Highway Guide Editor . . . send me an email and I'll create a user account so that you may input stories, photos, and roadside data directly to the system.
