A large CSA statues still stands in the city square
UDC Confederate Soldiers Memorial
City Square, US-23, Downtown
Gainesville, Hall County

"To the Defenders of The Confederacy, PATRIOTS

The record of whose fortitude and heorism in the service of their country is the proud is the heritage of a loyal posterity.

'Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation'"

  "Erected by the Longstreet Chapter
Daughters of The Confederacy
Dedicated to Southern convictions
Consecrated to Southern valor

Unveiled June 7, 1909"

This memorial stands at the very center of the business district, in what I assume was the original town square. It's nearly impossible to see the monument through the trees, but the flags fly proudly over the green canopy.
