"KOREA 1950 - 1953
From the Pusan Perimeter to Inchon, from Seoul to frozen Chosin, from frozen Chosin to Hongnam,
from all those battles with strange and exotic names: Yudam-Ni Toko-Ri, Hagaru-Ri, Bloody Ridge, Pork Chop Hill
The Punchbowl, we gave our all for freedom as we know it. Let not your nay sayers fault our efforts; our blood
and bones make fertile that cold, hard, and cruel land, Korea. We were your sons, fathers, brothers, lovers,
husbands, and friends. We ask only that you not grieve or mourn our passing, but rather, remember what we accomplished there."
"In honor of the men and women of Jefferson County who served in Operations Desert Sheild and Desert Storm
Aug 2, 1990 - Feb 28, 1991"
Some monuments mark the lost in very simple terms while others portray the hardship. Still others admonish the living to remember the lost with fondness. This memorial to those Jefferson County men lost in Korea is stirring in the way it is carefully crafted to accomplish all of those goals. Korea was bloody and difficult. Korea could not be explained easily. The author of this memorial understood that and did an admirable job of bringing the visitor to the same level of understanding.
