A pocket park overlooks
the harbor marina
Charlevloix Honor Rolls
Harborside, US-31
Charlevoix, Charlevoix County

"These trees and this park are dedicated as a living memorial to the heroes from the vicinity who gaves their lives while serving the cause of freedom and liberty, during times of war and peace. Below are the names of those residents from the Charlevoix area who died while serving in the uniformed services of The United States of America; the Armed Forces of its' allies; and the United States Merchant Marine or WASPS during World War II"

It's very easy to miss this park, as the trees hide the flagpole and the stone obelisk. It's important to note that ALL men and women who died while serving, regardless of where they served, are recognized. Flying Officer Edwin McCann was one of about 8,000 US citizens who crossed the northern border during 1940 and 1941 to serve with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Most of them repatriated to US forces in the first months of 1942, but many choose to remain with the fighting units already in combat over the skies of the United Kingdom and other places the RAF and RCAF were engaged. This put their US citizenship in peril, but the Canadian government immediately offered citizenship status to those men. The United States relented after a time and these men were able to continue flying with the RCAF without loss of US citizenship.
