Small memorial remembers soldiers of three defining wars of the USA W.R.C./Home Township Memorial
Edmore, Montcalm County
"In Memory Of Our Fallen Heroes
Erected May 30, 1021 by Womens Relief Corp and Citizens of Home Township
"
The number of veterans memorials and honor rolls in small towns probably equals or exceeds that number erected by large, more affluent, communities around the nation. These homages are usually found in the local cemetery and often are the center of the burial grounds. Edmore's Vineland Cemetery is no exception. This small memorial honors the 'boys' that went away to fight in the Civil War, Spanish American Way, and World War I.
It seems odd that the local Womens Relief Corp, which was the auxilliary of the GAR, helped fund this memorial, but there is no specific mention of the J T Barrett Post 130 GAR. The post disbanded in 1909. One can only assume that the ladies chose to look forward to assist and honor their children and grandchildren as they moved into old age.
