Chapel holds 6 - 10 people All Wars Memorial & Chapel
M-43 at Jordan Lake
Lake Odessa, Ionia
"Home of the brave World War II veterans who served"
"Some gave their lives, Others returned to create the Greatest Generation"
Location is the best element of this memorial to our veterans. On the shore of Jordan Lake, it isn't quite a roadside park, nor is it a large chapel, but both are here and offer a greater chance of vistors stopping to admire the presentation and spend a moment of remembrance.
The chapel, dedicated in 1982 to VietNam veterans, can hold just a few people, more than six is a crowd. It is a favorite spot for many VietNam veterans to be married, although we of that generation are fewer in number now and less likely to find a young bride or groom to marry! Regardless of your reason for stopping, whether it be the view or the solitude, take the opportunity to reflect upon the service and sacrifice of our brothers and sisters that were in uniform.
The is one plaque that seems out of place, but it really isn't. Dick Evans was a local boy made good, and a
veteran.
His series of humorous and educational television reports from WOOD-TV was called
"On The Michigan Road" and were part of our west Michigan experience for over 30 years.
Click here to see one particular episode from 1979 in which Dick admits he's is, "scared to death!" and it shows. But Dick, like the veterans honored at this chapel, overcame his fear and did the job.
