Unusual location for a veterans memorial, an auto dealership lot
Bookwalter Marine Corps Memorial, Stanton, MI

The Flags Stands In Honor Of All Veterans

"This memorial is dedicated to the

United State Marine Corp
Hotel Co. 2nd Battallion,

26th Marines, 5th Marine Division
Vietnam 1966 - 1970

In remembrance of . . .

The memorial sits on M-66 at the edge of an auto dealers lot. The owner of the lot, Mr. John Bookwalter, lost a childhood friend in Vietnam. Years later he still remembers that friend and honors those that served with him. The memorial has become a gathering spot for the remaining members of "Company H" as they remember thier lost comrades and friends.

There is a very large flag and standard in the middle of the memorial. It's impressive, but nearly impossible to get a decent photo because of the size! If you visit this monument you MUST stand close to fully appreciate the work of the artist. At the top of the marble there are faint images, nearly holographic, of a US flag, Marine Corp globe and anchor, and Company H unit patch. Impressive.
