Almost secluded underneath a canopy of trees at the edge of the courthouse lawn All Wars Memorial & Honor Rolls
St Ignace, Mackinac County
"In honor and remberance of those who served in the armed forces of the United States"
"1917-1918 - They did not die too soon who held the front for Christendom. What equal glories could their further years have won"
"1941-1945 - In memory of our servicemen who gave their lives for our country during World War II"
"Dedicated to all service personnel who answered our country's call to defend freedom during the Korean conflict and to the memory of the men of Mackinac County who gave their lives in Korea"
"Dedicated to all service personnel who answered our country's call to defend freedom during the VietNam war and to the memory of the men of Mackinac County who gave their lives in VietNam"
Service and casualty lists show the impact of military duty upon a small community. Notice that the Nordquist family gave sons in both the first World War and Korea. Until the completion of the bridge to the lower peninsula 50 years ago, St Ignace was always difficult to reach during the winter months. The community was very tight-knit and sending a son off to war was an event never forgotten.
The image quality of these honor rolls is not very good. I look forward to using the need to rephotograph this memorial as a good excuse to return to St Ignace.
