Peaceful location for veterans and summertime guests to Manistee Manistee County Veterans Memorial
Manistee River
Manistee, Manistee County
The Manistee County memorial to veterans service is unique, as the backside is a combination lawn and seating area for a bandstand on the banks of the Manistee River. Many local events are centered on this stretch of the river and makes for a peaceful to view them. It appears the monument was designed and erected shortly after World War II.
Four service symbols seems to represent the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force. There is no reference to the US Coast Guard, which is a big disappointment - Manistee has a long history as host to a Coast Guard lifeboat station. It's just a surprise that the designers would ignore there large amount of service rendered to this small community.
