Small towns and villages tend to be much more aware of sacrifice, because even one loss diminishes the community so much. The Hillside Cemetery, located on M-89 at the easterb edge of Plainwell obviously reflects the early roots of the city. Unfortunately there appears to have been a GAR memorial and veterans burial area, but the monument is missing from the pedestal.
The World Wars are observed with nicely styled plaques and include honor roll listings. The Korea and VietNam eras do not list casualty names.
