"In Memoriam

To all those who have served and especially to those who made the ultimate sacrifice and who are remembered here this monument is dedicated

May the souls of those who gave their lives preserving our freedom rest in peace

Presented this
4th Day of July 1991 AD
by the
Louis A and Karen Smith Family"

From the depths of our southern States to the foreign shores of South America, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia.... these tablets list the names of 363 men and women that served and gave their "last measure of devotion" to our republic.

This is an extraordinarily well planned monument. It sits next to beautiful Grand Traverse Bay, itself a pleasant venue. The dedication table and six cenotaph form a circle around the flag. At each tablet the visitor is allowed the space to truly ponder the sacrifices of the fallen. That is is a privately funded memorial is another pleasant surprise.

Current world events lead most to believe that many more names will be added to this honored list. We mourn them all and wonder what the loss of their lives, and their futures, have really cost all of us.

Many men remembered, many stories untold
