Delaware County Veterans Memorials
Courthouse, OH-18
Delaware, Delaware County

"In memory of the soldiers and sailors of Delaware County Ohio who served in the war of
1861-1865"

"In honored memory of our heroes who gave their lives"

"Dedicated to the World War I veterans 1914-1918"

"Dedicated to the men and women of Delaware County who served their country in World War II. 1941-1945"

"Dedicated to the Korea and VietNam veterans"

Many memorials to a specific war or conflict will place the opening and closing dates of the era on the monument. The USA entered World War I in April of 1917 and only had troop on the ground about 15 months before the Armistice was signed. The Delaware memorial, however, shows the war dates for WW I as 1914 to 1918. Why? Obviously the memorial designers recognized the fact that many Americans had fought in that war from the very beginning as ex-patriots for the French and English.
