Large flag pole seems out of place, but lets all know the purpose of the park
New Concord War Memorial Park
US-22
New Concord, Muskingum County

"Dedicated May 19, 1949
Rededicated July 4, 2007"

"For God and County we dedicate this memorial in loving memory of our veterans of all wars who have served their country so we may continue to enjoy freedom and democracy

Dedicated by East Muskingum VFW Post 1742"

Sadly my photo of the honor roll here did not come out as well as I had hoped. As I looked over the plaque itself I noticed a familiar name, two actually. US Senator John Glenn was born and raised here - serving with distinction in the US Marine Corps during World War II and Korea. His father, John Glenn, Sr., served in World War I and both are listed on the honor roll plaque.

Senator Glenn frequently speaks about the good qualities of a small town like New Concord. To my mind this little park speaks more than their American Hero ever could. The citizens here understand the impact of veterans upon their community and the consequences of not having men with the courage to stand and take the Oath of Enlistment.
