General Philip Sheridan Memorial
StClairsville Village Circle, US-22
StClairsville, Perry County

"This memorial erected by the people of Belmont County
Dedicated to the veterans of all wars."

"This memorial plaque was placed by the Zane's Trace chapter of The Daughters of The American Revolution in grateful memory of those buried in the soil of Belmont County who loved country more than life and served in the American Revolution - 1775 - 1783
Dedicated July 4, 1976"

Close by the main memorial here is a small stone that carries the names of five men from Belmont County that have been awarded the Medal of Honor. Two stories of two them from World War II; Sgt Sylvester Antolak, US Army, and Sgt Emile Deleau Jr, US Army, are examples of bravery for which the medal is truly earned. Antolak charged over a battlefield in Italy under withering fire from German troops. Although injured he continued to advance and lead the troops behind him, killing 20 enemy soldiers and caputuring a machine gun emplacment in the process. He was killed while making yet another advance.

DeLeau also lost his life after repeated examples of determination against the enemy in France.
