Although the current setting is beautiful, atop a small hill overlooking the business district, I think this memorial has been moved from its original placement and significantly altered from the intent of honoring those members of the GAR that commissioned the statue. The current location, in front of the local art museum, is essentially the middle of a parking lot.

The granite pedastal of the orginal monument has been etched with the dates of various wars and conflicts of American history. While is is admirable that somebody within the city or the county has the desire to remember the veterans of these wars, it would be far more appropriate to commission a new monument rather than 'tag along' on an existing design.
