The ornate cut stone courthouse makes a beautiful backdrop for this Civil War memorial. The presentation gives two very good bas relief
depictions of both a land battle and beachead invasion, although both are romanticized to a point. We must remember that in this era the
battlefield artist and the occasional photograph were the only clues as to the actual nature of a battlefield. In this regard the modern era
etched marble depictions of our service personnel give a much greater depth of detail and accuracy.
